Are we spending too much time online playing games?
The internet is a huge part of today’s modern life. Wherever we go we are required to use the internet to apply for jobs, look for houses, find restaurant deals and even take courses. The same applies with our hobbies, so many of them can be done online now, like gaming online, such as bingo, poker, black jack etc. But are we spending too much time online?
A recent survey by whichbingo.co.uk presented to us an astonishing statistic. According to their results an average online bingo player plays for 624 hours a year. Surely that is a lot of your year gone on staring at a screen? But it is not just that, online bingo is social, interactive, and above all, fun.
It would not be as popular as it is if it was boring. Obviously the online gaming providers are doing something right if players are spending an average of 26 days a year playing this well loved traditional game. It seems that it is their aim to achieve these figures found by whichbingo.co.uk:
“At FreeBingo.co.uk we work hard to make sure our players have plenty to keep them busy and enjoying the site. It’s no surprise to me that people are now spending so many hours enjoying their bingo!”
As CM_Wayne, Manager of Freebingo, states above, they are aiming for players to spend hours and hours playing their games. But is it really good for us?
The encouraging thought is that we are keeping our brains active as we play these games and we are interacting with others, even if they are the virtual representatives of real people. This social network is essential in a human’s life, but is it enough; what we really need is face to face interaction. But for many they achieve this in their day to day lives, at work, in the supermarket etc. However a worrying thought is our eyesight. Sat staring at a screen for 12 hours a week is not going to make your eyes as happy but in this modern world if they are not staring at a computer they probably would be staring at a TV, so really we have to succumb to the fact that this is how we spend much of our lives these days. In fact it could turn out that staring at a screen is no different to reading a book and we have never been told you can read too much!
